Leading with your Emotions

Jesus was the most compassionate man that ever lived on the planet and he was often moved with emotion as he went from place to place. one day when Jesus saw a crowd, he was so full of emotion that he said that what the world needs are people that are compassionate workers that will shepherd lost people.

Matthew 9.36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly [is] plentiful, but the laborers [are] few.

Jesus cried

John 11:35 Jesus wept.

LET ME ASK YOU?

When was the last time you got so passionate about the service you do for God, that you cried? Having a soft heart and being moved by tears for what you do is a sign of a great leader.

Jesus got angry

John 2:13 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the moneychangers doing business. 15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers' money and overturned the tables.

16 And He said to those who sold doves, "Take these things away! Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise!" 17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up."

LET ME ASK YOU?

What makes you angry?

What eats you up?

These things are your passion!

What injustices are you passionate about?

These are the things that can drive you and can be KEYS TO YOUR DESTINY IN GOD.

MY PASSION

Luke 18:16 But Jesus called them and said, Allow the little children to come to Me, and forbid them not. For of such is the kingdom of God.

It upsets me sometimes when people undervalue a child’s value, place in society, ability, potential and place in the kingdom of God. That is what eats me up. That’s my passion. Is it yours?

Leading with your emotions, doesn’t mean that we follow our emotions and if something feels right we do it. It means that we have a soft heart and learn to feel with God’s heart as a leader.

Great Leaders Exalt Others

In 1 Kings 1 we find that King David is slowly dying after a great life of leadership and influence. This meant that a new King needed to be selected. Along came a guy called Adonijah, that thought he’d make himself King. But he went about it the wrong way and tried to exalt himself as King…

1 Kings 1.5 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith EXALTED HIMSELF, saying, "I will be king"; and he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

Adonijah tried to get together some people that would follow him, but most of the people, that belonged to David didn’t follow him…

1 Kings 1:7 Then he CONFERRED with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they followed and helped Adonijah. 8 BUT Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who [belonged] to David WERE NOT WITH Adonijah.

The Difference with David
David's mighty men didn't follow Adonijah the new king, because David never exalted himself, but was more interested in exalting other’s, encouraging others and seeing others reach their full potential.

Some of my favourite verses in the life of David are 1 Samuel 22:1-2…

1 Samuel 22:1 And David left there and escaped to the cave Adullam. And his brothers and all his father's house heard, and went down to him there.

1 Samuel 22:2 And every man in distress, and every man who had a creditor, and every man bitter of soul, gathered themselves to him. And he became commander over them. And about four hundred men were with him.

David took a bunch of people who had all sorts of problems

· Were in distress
· Owed someone money
· Had a bitter soul

And he changed them into a great army, who were referred to as “DAVID’S MIGHTY MEN”

That’s what makes a great leader, the kind of leader others will follow.

These people belonged to David, because of his love and care for them. They would do anything for David.

LET ME ASK YOU! Who belongs to you because of your love, care and encouragement? What can you do to create some mighty men? Who are the people in your life that you can encourage?

The Calling

I am a minister. I minister to the largest mission field in the world. I minister to children. My calling is sure. My challenge is big. My vision is clear. My desire is strong. My influence is eternal. My impact is critical. My values are solid. My faith is tough. My mission is urgent. My purpose is unmistakable. My direction is forward. My heart is genuine. My strength is supernatural. My reward is promised. And my God is real.

In a world of cynicism, I offer hope. In a world of confusion, I offer truth. In a world of immorality, I offer values. In a world of neglect, I offer attention. In a world of abuse, I offer safety. In a world of ridicule, I offer affirmation. In a world of division, I offer reconciliation. In a world of bitterness, I offer forgiveness. In a world of sin, I offer salvation. In a world of hate, I offer God’s love. I refuse to be dismayed, disengaged, disgruntled, discouraged, or distracted. Neither will I look back, stand back, fall back, go back, or sit back. I do not need applause, flattery, adulation, prestige, stature, or veneration. I do not have time for business as usual, mediocre standards, small thinking, outdated methods, normal expectations, average results, ordinary ideas, petty disputes, or low vision. I will not give up, give in, bail out, lie down, turn over, quit or surrender.

I will pray when things look bad. I will pray when things look good. I will move forward when others stand still. I will trust God when obstacles arise. I will work when the task is overwhelming. I will get up when I fall down. My calling is to reach boys and girls for God. It is too serious to be taken lightly, too urgent to be postponed, too vital to be ignored, too relevant to be overlooked, too significant to be trivialized, too eternal to be fleeting, and too passionate to be quenched.

I know my mission. I know my challenge. I also know my limitations, my weaknesses, my fears, and my problems. And I know my God. Let others get the praise. Let the church get the blessing. Let God get the glory. I am a minister. I minister to children. This is who I am. This is what I do.

Study: Spirituality a big part of kids' happiness

Spirituality is a major contributor to a child's overall happiness — even more so than for adults — according to a new study from the University of British Columbia.

The study tested 315 children aged 9 to 12, measuring spirituality and other factors such as temperament and social relations that can affect an individual's sense of happiness.

"Our goal was to see whether there's a relation between spirituality and happiness," said Mark Holder, associate professor of psychology and the study's co-author. "We knew going in that there was such a relation in adults, so we took multiple measures of spirituality and happiness in children."

Past studies have shown that in adults, spiritual feelings and higher levels of religious behavior typically account for about 5% of a person's overall happiness, said a UBC statement.

The results of the UBC study came as a surprise: 6.5 to 16.5% of children's happiness can be accounted for by spirituality.

"From our perspective, it's a whopping big effect," said Holder. "I expected it to be much less — I thought their spirituality would be too immature to account for their well-being."

Children in the study were asked to rate statements such as "I feel a higher power's presence," and answer questions including, "how often do you pray or meditate privately outside of church or other places of worship?"

Parents were also asked to describe each child's apparent happiness and spirituality, and teachers rated each child's happiness level.

The study's authors plan to conduct the same research in India to see whether children score similar results in a country not dominated by Christianity.
